6 June – 12 June is Bike Week 2022!
Bike Week is an annual celebration of cycling with the aim of raising awareness of the huge benefits that travelling by bike can have on individuals and communities.
Cycling has a multitude of health benefits for society as a whole and we believe that more people on bikes means more for everyone!
Research shows that cycling improves health and wellbeing; offering physical and mental benefits for individuals while contributing to cleaner air and happier, healthier neighbourhoods.
Travelling by bike also encourages us to shop local and therefore improves the local economy and greatly reduces the carbon monoxide levels where you live.
From a community perspective active travel encourages greater interaction with our neighbours; helping to reduce social isolation and promoting a sense of community and belonging. Why not offer some support to others during Bike Week and offer to cycle a route or commute with a friend or neighbour and help boost confidence?
- Health – Cycling to work can mean you have a 45% lower risk of developing cancer, and a 46% lower risk of cardiovascular disease
- Environment – A switch of one journey per day reduces a person’s carbon footprint by approximately 0.5 tonnes over a year
- Financial – If all cycle journeys increased from the current level of 2% to 25% by 2050, the collective benefit would be £248bn
Share your experiences!
At Bike Town, we won’t stop banging on about the benefits of cycling! If you’ve visited our shop or you’ve been following us on social media, you’ll know that we celebrate cycling week in, week out. So for Bike Week 2022, we want to hear from you!
We’d love to hear what kind of cycling you do, why you do it, where you do it and what you think would encourage more people to take to two wheels.
